Court Upholds Constitutionality of California False Complaint Statute

Excerpt: "James M. Kinder, business owner, filed 20 complaints with the Department regarding the actions of Dona Loshonkohl, a veteran police officer, which he stated were for the purpose of "revenge." The Department individually reviewed, evaluated and investigated 18 complaints; two were treated as "inquiries" because Kinder refused to respond to questions about the complaints." Jackson, Mississippi in Midst of Battles with Firefighter Union

Excerpt: "In one lawsuit, 14 firefighters claim they were denied lieutenant positions because of their union involvement. During the test to become a lieutenant, union firefighters were interrupted, which violated testing rules, according to the February 21 lawsuit. A lawsuit represents one side of a legal argument." Proposal For Full-Time Medics Pits Volunteers Against Paid Firefighters

Excerpt: "Some volunteers have earned more than $20,000 a year.

"We're not trying to get rid of them, but I don't think they can be called volunteers when they're making that kind of money," Hodkinson said. "I think if the money was spent better, we could afford some of these programs, like paramedics." Click here for article.
 

 

Layoffs Hit Minneapolis Fire Department

Excerpt: "Minneapolis firefighter Jim Baker spent his last day on the job Thursday commemorating 30 years of service as the guest of honor at a farewell dinner he hadn't planned on a few weeks ago.
 
"Baker and at least 12 other veterans have accepted incentives to retire early, helping to save the jobs of 11 firefighters who were slated to be laid off today." Click here for article.
