The San Antonio Professional Firefighters Association - Local 624

Oscar's Breakfast Club: About five or six years ago, exact time unknown (due to retired condition!), three retired firefighters and a brother of a firefighter met to celebrate a birthday. From this humble beginning, the club has brown to over 40 retired firefighters meeting for breakfast to celebrate their birthdays . . . Scroll down to continue reading and for more photos.

The first breakfast "celebration" was at Rita's Fiesta Cafe on Bandera Road. The original retired firefighters were Dave "Mafia" Moreno, Frank "Pancho" Ibarra, Oscar Villareal and his brother, Rudy. In retirement, all birthdays are a cause for celebration!

The club currently meets at Estela's Mexican Restaurant at 2200 W. Martin (cross street Trinity, landmark cat-a-corner from Max Martinez Mortuary). As the club expanded in participants--and in waist sizes--the calling committee of one, Oscar Villarreal, has grown to two with the sizeable addition of Sabino "Breezy" Briseno.

Membership requirements are few: Must be a retired firefighter, enjoy the company of other retirees, miss the firehouse breakfast of tacos, barbacoa, potato and egg, egg with hotsauce or ranchero!
